3 Ways to take better portrait photos

As someone who has been trying to make it as an amateur photographer, you may have been wondering what tricks you have yet to learn. When taking portrait photos, there is a certain skill that you must have if you are going to be able to get a good shot. There are many things for you to consider, but the main three are:

  1. Lighting – You have to make sure that you have the right lighting. Too much and you are going to cause a glare in the photo. This is going to make it seem like you don’t know what you are doing. Having not enough lighting is going to cause the picture to be too dark. This is why it is important to always make sure that you have enough lights which are not too powerful.
  1. Background – Having a good backdrop is nice, but you need to be careful that the background is not overtaking the picture. When you have a bright background, depending on what the person is wearing, you are going to have too much blending and it is going to be too distracting.
  1. Distance – With portrait pictures, you are going to want to get close. Not so close where you can see the inside of their nose, but close enough where you are going to be able to fill the frame. The focal point is the face, not the background. By zooming in, you are going to risk the focus of the picture. Move close to the person to get a good shot.

Taking photos of people in portrait photographs, you have to make sure that you are going to be able to have what you need right from the start. With proper lighting, background and distance, you’re going to be able to take a wonderful picture.
